LEAD INSPECTOR TRAINING

This 24-hour Lead Inspector Initial training course is required by the Ohio Department of Health to apply for a Lead Abatement Inspector license and a pre-requisite for the Lead Risk Assessor license.

The purpose of this course is to equip inspectors with the specialized skills necessary to conduct accurate and defensible residential inspections for lead-based paint. Course follows EPA curriculum and HUD guidelines.

COURSE TOPICS

History of lead use, sources of environmental lead contamination, development of sampling strategies, lead-based paint sampling and analysis, inspection report generation, testing of other media for lead contamination, Ohio Department of Health rules, EPA/HUD regulations, theory and use of x-ray fluorescence analyzers, disclosure requirements.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Housing/commercial building inspectors, industrial hygienists, environmental safety and health consultants, trainers, and community development professionals should attend. This course is a prerequisite for the Risk Assessor Training course.

A licensed person must successfully complete the appropriate Ohio-approved refresher course within two years of their initial training or previous refresher course. If refresher training is not completed within two years the initial course must be repeated.

1)   A completed application with an original signature.

3)   A check or money order made out to the “Treasurer, State of Ohio” in the amount of $500.00 as listed on the application.

4)   A photograph must be submitted with the licensure application. A recent passport sized color photo shall be attached. In lieu of attaching the photo, the applicant may e-mail a photo to lead@odh.ohio.gov. The photo must be FAQ 3701-32 and 3701-82 7/2016 in JPG format and must be labeled with the applicant’s last name and the last four digits of his/her social security number (i.e. Smith 5555).

The typical Lead Abatement Worker training course is a 32-hour training course as required by the Ohio Department of Health to apply for a Lead Abatement Worker license.  However, this class is being taught as the Lead Abatement Contractor class and is a 40-hour training course and satisfies the requirements for the Lead Abatement Worker course.

This 16-hour Lead Risk Assessor Initial training course is required by the Ohio Department of Health to apply for a Lead Risk Assessor license.  You must take the 24-hour Inspector Initial to as a prerequisite to apply for the Lead Risk Assessor license.

Renovation, Repair and Painting REFRESHER – 4 Hr – Euclid – Friday, January 26, 2018

This is a Renovation, Repair and Painting Refresher Training course (RRP). The course is a 4-hour class and includes hands-on procedures and a required certification exam. Upon completion of the class and passing the course exam, your information is uploaded into the U.S. EPA’s database with your uniquely assigned Certified Renovator number.  This certification is good for five years.  You will receive a certificate in the mail with your unique number and photograph.

You must take a refresher class before the five year expiration date to keep your certification current.  If your previous certificate has expired, you must retake the 8-hour training course.

What Is the Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Program (RRP)?

  • The Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Program is a federal regulatory program affecting contractors, property managers, and others who disturb painted surfaces.
  • It applies to residential houses, apartments, and child-occupied facilities such as schools and day-care centers built before 1978.
  • It includes pre-renovation education requirements as well as training, certification, and work practice requirements.

–  Pre-renovation education requirements:

  • Contractors, property managers, and others who perform renovations for compensation in residential houses, apartments, and child-occupied facilities built before 1978 are required to distribute a lead pamphlet before starting renovation work.

–  Training, certification, and work practice requirements:

  • Firms are required to be certified, their employees must be trained (either as a certified renovator or on-the-job by a certified renovator) in use of lead-safe work practices, and lead-safe work practices hat minimize occupants’ exposure to lead hazards must be followed.
  • Renovation is broadly defined as any activity that disturbs painted surfaces and includes most repair, remodeling, and maintenance activities, including window replacement.
  • EPA’s lead renovation regulations can be found at 40 CFR Part 745, Subpart E.

Who Must Follow the Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule’s Requirements?

In general, anyone who is paid to perform work that disturbs paint in housing and child-occupied facilities built before 1978, this may include, but is not limited to:

–  General contractors

–  Special trade contractors, including:

  • Painters
  • Plumbers
  • Carpenters
  • Electricians

Federal law requires all renovation, repair, and painting firms (including sole proprietorships) working in housing, or facilities where children are routinely present, built before 1978, to be certified. This 8-hour Lead Risk Assessor / Inspector Refresher training course is required by the Ohio Department of Health to reapply for a Lead Risk Assessor or Lead Inspector license

A licensed person must successfully complete the appropriate Ohio-approved refresher course within two years of their initial training or previous refresher course. If refresher training is not completed within two years the initial course must be repeated.

COURSE  TOPICS:

Health effects of lead, regulatory updates including ODH rules and EPA/HUD regulations, abatement strategies and controls, and various review exercises.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: 

Licensed Lead Risk Assessors and Licensed Lead Inspectors

According to the Ohio Department of Health Frequently Asked Question Memo:

  1. How do I renew my license?

To renew your license the following must be submitted to the Lead Poisoning Prevention Program:

1)   A completed application with an original signature.

2)   A copy of the refresher course certificate for the license sought.

3)   A check or money order made out to the “Treasurer, State of Ohio” in the amount of $500.00 as listed on the application.

4)   A photograph must be submitted with the licensure application. A recent passport sized color photo shall be attached. In lieu of attaching the photo, the applicant may e-mail a photo to lead@odh.ohio.gov. The photo must be FAQ 3701-32 and 3701-82 7/2016 in JPG format and must be labeled with the applicant’s last name and the last four digits of his/her social security number (i.e. Smith 5555).

You must attend the whole class, any time missed must be made up before certificate can be issued.

Certificates are usually mailed within a week of the course completion.  Please contact the office if you need a copy of your certificate sooner.

Your license will be reissued by The Ohio Department of Health.  Application fee to the State of Ohio for the Lead Risk Assessor or Lead Inspector License is $250.00.

Lead Risk Assessor or Lead Inspector Licenses are issued to the individual, not to a company.

You must take a refresher course within two years of your previous training course, failure to do so will require retaking the 24- hour Inspector and 16-hour Risk Assessor initial course.

RESERVATION CANCELLATION

Cancellation out of a training class by a registrant will be subject to the following:

Cancellation at least 7 days before the first day of the training class will entitle the registrant to a full refund of all paid training class fees.

Cancellation 6 days or less, but before the first day of the training class will result in a refund of all paid class fees less a 50% penalty.

Cancellation on or after the first day of the training class, will result in no refund.

Cancellation Penalties are Waived if you Reschedule into a Future Training Class

This 8-hour Lead Abatement Refresher training course is required by the Ohio Department of Health to reapply for a Lead Abatement Contractor license.  Per the Ohio Revised Code 3701-32-04 (G)(1)(a):  A lead abatement worker may take a lead abatement contractor refresher course in lieu of a lead abatement worker refresher course.

A licensed person must successfully complete the appropriate Ohio-approved refresher course within two years of their initial training or previous refresher course. If refresher training is not completed within two years the initial course must be repeated.
