This 40-hour Lead Abatement training course is required by the Ohio Department of Health to apply for a Lead Abatement Contractor license.  This training course uses both the EPA model Lead Abatement Contractor curriculum, HUD Guidelines, and includes OSHA and EPA compliance requirements. The class focuses on identification of safe work practices and job specifications for controlling hazards of lead paint, dust, and soil. Table top exercises are used to teach how to choose abatement methods that are most cost-effective. Trainees participate in hands-on demonstrations of abatement techniques, personal protective equipment, and environmental testing methods.

The trainings goal is an individual who has the knowledge to be responsible for supervising safe, effective residential lead abatement projects.

Current and Pending Regulations, Recognition and Control of Hazards, Toxicology of Lead, Effective Employee Training and Protection, Project Supervision Techniques, Estimating Costs of Abatement Jobs, Waste Disposal Issues, OSHA Compliance Requirements, Pre-Abatement Plan Preparation, Legal Liabilities Associated with Lead Abatement, Ohio Dept. of Health Rules, HUD Guidelines, Hands-on Demonstration of Abatement Techniques.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: 

Environmental and asbestos abatement contractors, industrial hygienists, environmental consultants, architects, housing professionals, painting contractors, abatement supervisors, demolition contractors, renovation and remodeling contractors, general contractors, project designers, and policy makers.

From the Ohio Department of Health Frequently Asked Questions Memo regarding Lead Abatement Contractors:

Lead Abatement Contractor scope of practice.

1)   A Lead Abatement Contractor is licensed to do the following on residential units, child care facilities and schools, or the soil surrounding them, or both:

  1. a) Conduct lead abatement;
  2. b) Provide professional advice regarding lead abatement;
  3. c) Supervise one or more Lead Abatement Workers;
  4. d) Write pre-abatement plans and lead abatement specifications, and
  5. e) Perform lead-safe renovation, essential maintenance practices, interim controls, and paint stabilization.

2)   A Lead Abatement Contractor shall not perform or provide advice on:

  1. a) Lead inspections;
  2. b) Lead-based paint sampling;
  3. c) Clearance examinations;
  4. d) Lead risk assessments;
  5. e) Other lead assessment activity, or
  6. f) Lead hazard screen risk assessments.

You must attend the whole class, any time missed must be made up before certificate can be issued.  You must also pass a written exam for issuance of a certificate.

Certificates are usually mailed within a week of the course completion.  Please contact the office if you need a copy of your certificate sooner.

Your license will be issued by The Ohio Department of Health.  In order to apply for the Contractor license, they require documentation of experience:  1 year experience as a Lead Abatement Worker or 2 years’ experience in lead, asbestos or other environmental remediation or construction.

Lead Abatement Contractor Licenses are issued to the individual, not to a company.

Application fee to the State of Ohio for the Lead Abatement Contractor License: $500.00

You must sit for a third party exam after applying for your license:  $70.00

License is good for two years.  To renew your license, you must show proof of attending an 8-hour refresher training course.

You must take a refresher course within two years of your previous training course, failure to do so will require retaking the 40-hour initial course.

CANCELLATION POLICY

 If Lead Experts (Pbx) deems that registration for any class is insufficient, Pbx reserves the right to cancel the training class.  If a class is canceled, the registrant has the option to receive a full refund for all class fees paid to Pbx or to reschedule in a future training class.

You must take a refresher course within your two year licensure period in order to renew your lead license.  Failure to do so will result in increased State application fees and if not renewed quickly enough, you will be required to repeat the 40 hours of initial training.

RESERVATION CANCELLATION:

Cancellation out of a training class by a registrant will be subject to the following:

Cancellation at least 7 days before the first day of the training class will entitle the registrant to a full refund of all paid training class fees.

Cancellation 6 days or less, but before the first day of the training class will result in a refund of all paid class fees less a 50% penalty.

Cancellation on or after the first day of the training class, will result in no refund.

Cancellation penalties are waived if you reschedule into a future training class
